How to take your social networking to the next level

One of the issues I run into with social networking is that most of the businesses who have heard about social networking are focused on it primarily as a way of getting business. And when they don't get business right away they get disheartened and feel that social networking isn't working for them. Or they decide right away to use social networking as a way to advertise their business, but don't really engage the audience.

Social media consultants, in the meantime, stress authenticity and gen… Continue

How to take your in-person networking to the next level

Networking is a skill, like any others, which means that it needs to be practiced on a regular basis. But what is networking? Is it really just the stereotypical meeting with people exchanging business cards and pithily offering their latest elevator speeches, or is there more to networking?

I would suggest that there's a lot more to networking than just attending networking meetings and that many networkers miss out on lots of opportunities, because what they are actually doing is less of netw… Continue

Since you live in Portland, we would be able to attract a larger group. Also, the venues (large facilities) are available there for hosting. The first thing to do would be to send a message to Thach Nguyen, the founder of CNP. I'd suggest spring as it would give us plenty of time to plan and the weather is better. Portland will draw folks from as far south as Salem and of course the Vancouver area. I think mainly, we need to find out who else belongs to CNP in the area and are willing to participate in the organization. Thach and Matthew Ferry will know what to do, so contact Thach first. Add him as a friend and go from there. I told him last spring that I'd hoped we could do a CNP Live Party in Oregon. The spark is there...now for the fire.

Geesh...when I clicked to leave an answer, I ended up at this box. I didn't realize you'd already done your housekeeping. It looks so much better don't you think?

Hi Taylor. If you move your cursor to the left of the headings some little arrows show up. Click on those to move things around. It takes a litle a bit of futzing about to get things to stay in the right place. If I managed to do it, then I'm sure you will too. Thanks for asking.

Hi Taylor, welcome to CNP. As was recommended to me, you might consider moving your profile information to the top of the page. I almost missed learning about you and your goals. By the way, I'm in Depoe Bay on the Central Oregon Coast. It's great having another Oregonian on CNP. I attended the CNP Live Party in Seattle last April. It was an awesome networking/contribution experience. Thach and Matthew Ferry are willing to do an event in Oregon. Perhaps that is something you might be interested in creating. It would be a great way to move your own work forward as well.
