What's your occupation?
Philanthropist and retired WA State Representative, consultant for success
What's your vision? (Your vision is about what inspires you and what's possible for you and the world)
My vision is a world in which children are fed, safe and healthy, and women self sufficient within their environments. To bring this vision about, I work on behalf of families living with traumas associated with poverty at First Place. The I spend a month in Kenya with women who are caring for as many as 10 children (theirs and other's) in rooms as small as 10x 10 without sanitation facilities. They can improve these conditions if they have income generating activities. I would like to help more of them become self sufficient.
What's ONE specific goal that you most want to succeed? (*Goal* they are just the milestone to your vision.)
My goal is to have my friends partner with me by contributing $50 - $100 to help with the work I do in Kenya with Kenyan women who are poor but full of hope and determination.
We do this through Parents for Student Success a tax deductible 501(c)3 organization in Seattle. All contributors receive a gift. www.parentsforstudentsuccess.org.
What are the next one to three things you need in referrals, connections, insight that would move your goal forward.

My commitment to the human good and lack of fear of meeting new people and challenges hals allowed me to have an incredible life and to be secure in my years of transitioning into mature age. In other words, I am retired from a 9-5 job.

I chose to do many things that challenged who I saw myself as being; I learned to get out of my own way and release what Matt Ferry calls the "drunk monkey." I brought my husband along with me on many ventures and allowed him to be my anchor on how I utilize resources of energy, time, friends and funds.

My relationship with Thach brings me to this social networking page and after being a blogger on the MyBarackObama site for 18 months, I am hooked on sharing my thoughts with 100's of people or no one at all maybe. What matters is that I get to express myself for myself.

So, I travel this country and the have traveled outside of the country. I have been to Africa my ancestral continent and I give back from what despite slavery, the United States has given me. It is what I will focus on in my relationships. I will contribute to others in ways that might be helpful. I will read every profile and find a common thread so that I can help Thach formulate his work.

CNP working for the women in Kenya

I go to Kenya each year as part of delegation of African American women reconnecting to our cultural home from which we have been for many centuries. We are now the privileged ones here in USA so we are giving back to a land that gave so much to make America a great place. In this message I received this week it shows the growth that the women we work with are experiencing. Just like we have given to them, they are now going into the villages themselves and helping rural woman and children. Sinc… Continue

Protecting Children Honoring Elders - Happy 75th Birthday Uncle Bob

Ancient wisdom for all people tells us that a society is known by how they protect their children and honor their elders.

This month an icon for social justice, community and giving is turning 75 years old. Many involved in Contribution Network Party are who they and where we are because Uncle Bob Santos had a vision for social justice, housing for the struggling, and offered his personal self to the well being of humanity, We are emerging or emerged leaders within our families, communities on… Continue

President Obama announces Office of Neighborhoods and Faith Based Programs

This is a great opportunity for many of us who do work within their communities and places of worship. It will allow new partnerships and make room for healing power of understanding. He has just told the world that "...his faith teaches that all is possible." He says he became a Christian because of the work he did in the streets of Chicago that he was called to a higher purpose God's purpose. He also tells us that he respects all faiths and we should not divide along lines of belief but pull t… Continue

Advocacating for Parents of School Age Children

Advocating on behalf of others works so well, because it is hard to speak about yourself without being self serving. Thach and I are contributors to First Place, an agency that assists families who are homeless or at risk of being homeless and live with trauma of instability. Children's education are negatively impacted by this instability. Through Parents for Student Success, I am an advocate for parents of school age children. Today I went to school with a former First Place parent to support… Continue

Be Part of JImi Hendrix History - with new member Pete Sikov

I will not make assumptions about who knows or does not know Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix was born and raised in Seattle, a troubled and gifted child who went on to be the world's greatest most known musician, he was a guitarist. He died young and is now a music legend.

Pete Sikov a new member could not bear to see the only home that Jimi lived in together with his family razed by developers, so he bought the house. His goal is to do something with the house that allows proceeds to flow to First Place… Continue

Thank you Dawn for accepting my friendship, I am really looking forward to make many friends. And also I am so proud of the great job you are doing in helping people in Africa, for I have been working there before moving here in the USA and I know how hard and difficult life can be; how hard simple and basic medical supplies can be difficult to have. Keep on going, I would like to know a little bit more about it and maybe share my own experience with you.

Thanks.

Mouiche.

Hi Dawn

First of all, it was a great pleasure and honor to get to meet you in person at the April CNP event. Having met you and many other members of CNP has been a life changing experience for me in itself. I work out of town a lot and am in Oklahoma City as I write this comment.

It has always been inspirational to me to give to causes where I have not known the individuals personally. We all live on this planet together and our individual purpose is always linked to our collective purpose. What better way to demonstrate our understanding of showing love that was shown to us than by identifying a means to help others improve the quality of their life by investing in their hopes and dreams. We do it in our churches and places of worship to teach us the concept of not fearing economic loss. Continuing to give out of our abundance as americans further demonstrate that concept. However, when we give to individuals we extend our love to humanity. We may not get to meet all the individuals we extend our love to but that should not ever stop us from feeling love and compassion for them. Nor should it diminish our purpose of investing in the hopes and dreams of those around us. I am so glad for the dance of joy that expressed appreciation for the fact that we do care. I am glad that you, Dawn was able to be our representative to put a face behind the love we have and look in the eyes of those individuals to convey our message to them.

Hi, Dawn..

Thanks for your response.. you are right, I could have written a better email message. It was late when I wrote it & I was hurried.
Just was so excited to hear about my friend's breakthrough after 17 years of fibromyalgia.
Every now & then I hear about someone else suffering from it & thought if I could get the basic information out to some people who know me enough to know that I am reliable, that it might reach the ears of some who really need to know about it.
My guess is that all of us know someone who knows someone who is dealing with this difficult disease.

To answer your question, the solution my friend found is not for every pain, it is just a cure for fibromyalgia. The doctor has figured out what causes it (he had it himself!) and how to get rid of it through non-prescription means. He sells a DVD for $20 explaining it, so people do not even need to come see him, they can do it on their own.

I didn't mean to be guarded in my comments, but since it is not my first hand experience, I thought it best to offer to connect people to my friend to talk about it with someone who has been through the treatment herself.

It sounds as if you and I may have an experience somewhat in common. The bottom half of my neck is titanium, from four cervical fusions done over a two year span of time. I broke my neck snow skiing. The bizarre thing is that it was not diagnosed for six years. I was in horrendous & continuous pain but due to a strange lack of communication, no doctor ever x rayed me for six years.

They kept asking me if I had been in an accident & I kept thinking "car accident" and failed to mention my wild skiing wipe out! Since my arms & legs still worked after the bad skiing fall, it never occurred to me that I could have broken my neck. I thought if a person did that, they were paralyzed!

Duh.

In reality, the fact that I was NOT paralyzed was a MIRACLE, as doctors have since told me. My neck was broken in two places!

So... I do wonder often WHY it took so long for me to be diagnosed & relieved of all that awful pain.

But, I also wonder why I was so graciously spared from paralysis.. and, I am deeply thankful!!!

I don't know so much about it needing to be our readiness to be healed, although that is an interesting thought. I was pretty much a happy person living a good life when I broke my neck.

I have had other experiences which required me to learn to release emotional and mental pain,
which indeed involved needing to be ready before the teacher appeared.. one has to open to it!

I am interested in your journey to Africa.. Is there an address where one could send a donation?

God bless you for all the good you do, and for your loving heart..

Hugs,

Suzette
